Dawn’s GWADAR correspondent Behram Baloch reported that a police team during a routine patrolling signalled a vehicle to stop in the area.

But the people travelling in it tried to escape and opened fire on police personnel. The police personnel chased the vehicle and returned fire.

Heavy exchange of fire continued for some time in which three persons travelling in the vehicle were killed.The police said that the alleged terrorist, identified as Mullah Omer, was hiding in the Satellite town area of Turbat.

Police officer Sattar Ranjho told Dawn that all the three people killed in the exchange of fire, were wanted by the Iranian government for long.

Iranian authorities were searfor kidnapping and killing of Iranian forces and other subversion activities.

‘Jaish-ul-Adal.’

According to Dawn, some other sources said that Mullah Omer belonged to banned Iranian outfit Jaish-ul-Adal.

Iranian government had asked the Pakistan government to arrest Mullah Omer and hand him over to Iran.

Sources said that a few years ago Iranian forces conducted a drone attack on Mullah Omer, but he survived the attack.

Police shifted the bodies of Mullah Omer and his two sons, identified as Hasan and Husain, to the district hospital in Turbat.

Pak Army Chief visits Quetta

However, analysts attach importance to timing of the media reports. They ask if it was merely a coincidence that the same day Pakistan Army Chief had visited Balochistan province.

Chief of the Army Staff #COAS visited Quetta, interacted with participants of National Workshop Balochistan.

That aimed at enhancing understanding of participants about critical national security issues and timely decision making process.

Furthermore, it aimed at enhancing their understanding on national security management system.

On the other hand, Iranian official news agency also reproduced the news of killing of Mullah Omar.

IRNA also quoted local media as reporting this news.

Some Pakistani media outlets claimed the terrorists were affiliated with the Jaish al-Adl terrorist group, or Lashkar-e-Khorasan.
