Allama Nasir says Govt U-turn on Raheel Sharif appointment surprising
Allama Raja Nasir Abbas Jafari, secretary general of Majlis-e-Wahdat-e-Muslimeen, has said that U-turn of PMLN government ministers on the appointment of General Raheel Sharif (retired) in Saudi-led military alliance, is surprising.
In his reaction to the statements of Defence Minister Khwaja Mohammad Asif and advisor to the prime minister on foreign affairs Sartaj Aziz in the Senate, he censured the contradictory statements from the government ministers. He cited that Defence Minister Khwaja Asif himself confirmed the appointment in a TV channel talk show some days ago and later he retracted his statement.
He cited that Sartaj Aziz surprised the nation saying that Saudi government had offered no position to former army chief of Pakistan Raheel Sharif.
Allama Jafari said that Raheel Sharif himself knew who patronized takfiri terrorists of banned outfits in Pakistan hence he should not join any alliance that is formed by the proponents of terrorists because that would make him controversial and defame Pakistan worldwide.
He urged the PMLN government to clarify its position instead of making non-serious controversial statements. He exhorted the government to maintain free and independent foreign policy.
