Shiites to finalise strategy on Jhang Elections shortly
Shia Muslims who are voters of the National Assembly’s constituency NA-89 from Jhang district of Punjab province are exploring their course of action for this seat and they will announce their final decision in a couple of days.
Allama Amin Shaheedi, Deputy Secretary General of the MWM, Nasir Abbas Shirazi, political affairs secretary, Allama Azhar Kazmi, Allama Abdul Khaliq Asadi and other officials of the MWM have reached Jhang and held meetings with the notables and the voters of the area at Imam Bargah Qasr-e-Abbas (AS).
They garnered the opinion and a vast majority up to 90 percent proposed that if support is extended to Shaikh Mohammad Akram on NA-89 that must be conditional and Shaikh Akram should be conveyed that if he supports Akhtar Shirazi on the seat of Punjab Assembly falls in the limits of his NA seat, then he will be supported in reciprocation.
Shia Ulema Council’s Allama Arif Wahidi and Allama Shabbir Meesami had separately visited Jhang and held meetings there as well. They had announced support for Shaikh Akram, an electoral candidate nominated by PMLN. However, their decision has sparked off an instant reaction and Shiites staged protest outside the place where the decision was announced.
Then, a malicious campaign was launched through SMS to malign the MWM for that opposition. Allama Shaheedi asserted that the MWM had nothing to do with the protest and protestors. He also condemned the anti-MWM campaign following the protest.
Shiites of Jhang are of the view if Shaikh Akram don’t accept the condition then Sunni Bralevi candidate Tariq Gilani may be backed in the elections. Up to 45 notables proposed support to Tariq Gilani.
