Trump’s Threats to Attack Iran, Conflicting Claims Over Strait of Hormuz Control and Weapons Stockpiles

Shiite News: In a recent interview with TIME magazine, U.S. President Donald Trump claimed that Iran’s economy had been devastated and once again repeated his threats against the Islamic Republic of Iran. Trump said that attacks on Iran could resume after the midterm elections and claimed that the United States could destroy Iran. Iran, meanwhile, has taken a firm position that any negotiations would only take place on the condition that the Islamic Republic’s terms are accepted, while Trump is seeking what he calls a “real deal” on his own terms.

The U.S. president rejected constructive proposals put forward by the Iranian government to end the war. He also described Iran’s proposal concerning the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz as insufficient. Contrary to what Iran says are the facts on the ground, where the Islamic Republic maintains recognized control over the Strait of Hormuz, Trump claimed that the United States had closed the waterway to Iran and established control over it, while also claiming that the largest amount of oil in history had been transported through the strait. Meanwhile, according to military experts, U.S. strategic weapons stockpiles are at their lowest levels since World War II. Trump, however, rejected such claims and said the United States has an abundant supply of weapons that it will distribute among its allies.

The Islamic Republic of Iran has consistently stated that its nuclear program is entirely peaceful and under strict international oversight, and that it has never sought to acquire nuclear weapons. Despite this, the U.S. president used disparaging language to say that Iran cannot have nuclear weapons. Seeking to ease pressure from rising energy prices resulting from the war imposed on the region, Trump claimed that oil prices would return to normal as soon as a deal was reached with Iran.
