U.S. and Israeli Attacks Destroyed Education and Health Centers: Iranian Foreign Minister

Shiite News: Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi has said that wars, unilateral sanctions and aggression have sharply intensified problems such as poverty, hunger and inequality in developing countries.

Addressing a high-level meeting of the Global Development Initiative on the sidelines of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, Araghchi emphasized that development is not possible in an environment of pressure and conflict. He said developing countries need financial resources, technology and international cooperation rather than additional pressure.

Strongly criticizing decades of unilateral U.S. sanctions, Araghchi described them as “economic terrorism” against ordinary civilians. He said restrictions affecting trade, financial resources, medicines and scientific development were directly impacting the daily lives of the Iranian people. He argued that the United Nations has a responsibility to oppose such measures and seek their complete and unconditional removal.

Araghchi strongly condemned what he described as U.S. and Israeli attacks against Iran, calling them violations of international law and the UN Charter. He said thousands of people, including women and children, had been killed in the attacks and that civilian and vital infrastructure had been destroyed.

Referring to the primary school in the southern city of Minab, where Iranian authorities say 168 students were killed, as well as Iran’s Pasteur Institute and a sports complex in Lamerd, Fars Province, Araghchi said facilities representing education, healthcare and hope had been turned into scenes of destruction.
