Islam Prohibits Extravagance and Waste, Says Syed Ahmad Shah Al-Hussaini

Shiite News: Friday prayer leader of Gamba Skardu, Baltistan, Hujjat al-Islam wal-Muslimeen Syed Ahmad Shah Al-Hussaini, emphasized the importance of avoiding extravagance and waste and maintaining moderation in life during his Friday sermon.

He explained that Islam does not prevent people from benefiting from the blessings provided to them, but prohibits their improper, excessive and irresponsible use.

Referring to the Quran and Hadith, Syed Ahmad Shah Al-Hussaini explained that israf refers to exceeding reasonable limits in the use of something permissible, while tabdhir means wasting wealth without a meaningful purpose. He said excessive spending can create financial difficulties for families and encourage unnecessary competition and display during weddings and other social events. He emphasized that waste is not limited to money, but can also involve time and personal abilities.

Syed Ahmad Shah Al-Hussaini said the conduct and teachings of the Ahl al-Bayt (AS) demonstrate that life is not simply about fulfilling personal desires, but about using blessings responsibly in accordance with the pleasure of Allah and respecting the rights of others.

Referring to the example of Karbala, he said that Hazrat Abbas (AS) reaching the Euphrates yet refraining from drinking water represents a significant example of selflessness and giving priority to the needs and rights of others.

At the conclusion of his sermon, he urged people to use food, water, electricity and other resources according to their needs and to avoid unnecessary customs and excessive practices at social gatherings. He also urged parents to develop in their children an appreciation for blessings and a sense of contentment.
