Government Presented a “Poor-Eliminating” Budget; This Is Not a Budget but a Sign of Fear, Says Senator Allama Raja Nasir Abbas

ShiiteNews: Leader of the Opposition in the Senate, Senator Allama Raja Nasir Abbas, stated that the government has presented a “poor-eliminating” budget, which is not a budget but rather a sign of fear.

Speaking during a Senate session chaired by Senate Chairman Yousaf Raza Gilani, he questioned whether the budget had been presented in the interest of the people of Pakistan. He said that instead of providing relief from inflation, the budget would push the public deeper into economic hardship.

Allama Raja Nasir Abbas said that they have no objection to any institution, but questioned why the country has accumulated such a large amount of debt. He asked whether this is the proper way to run a country. He noted that poverty is continuously increasing, with around 70 million people living in poverty in Pakistan, while more than 20 million additional people have fallen below the poverty line this year.

He further stated that this is not a budget but a symbol of fear, adding that the country will have to pay interest on loans amounting to approximately Rs8 trillion.

He demanded that the government revise the budget to make it people-friendly and take concrete measures to reduce the burden of inflation on the public.
