Shehbaz Government Must Answer for Its Failure on Pakistan-Iran Gas Pipeline Project, Says Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman

Shiite News: Ameer of Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan, Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman, addressing a press conference at Idara Noor-e-Haq alongside Acting Karachi Ameer and Opposition Leader in KMC Saifuddin Advocate, Karachi Secretary Taufiquddin Siddiqui, Sindh Assembly member Muhammad Farooq, and Town Chairmen, said that the price of petrol should be fixed at Rs250 per liter, industrial electricity should be provided at 9 cents per unit, gas prices should be significantly reduced, and these rates should be frozen for at least three years to ensure stability for industry, trade, and the economy.

He stated that the government had reduced petrol prices by Rs22 per liter, whereas under the current circumstances, an immediate reduction of Rs122 per liter should have been announced.

Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman further said that there is no justification for maintaining the petroleum levy during wartime and extraordinary economic conditions. He noted that the levy was originally imposed to increase refinery capacity, but substantial progress toward that objective has yet to be achieved.

He added that Jamaat-e-Islami will present its comprehensive budget proposals in Islamabad on June 3. He called for a review of what he described as unfair agreements with Independent Power Producers (IPPs) and demanded an end to unnecessary payments. According to him, the nation paid nearly Rs1.8 trillion this year for electricity that was never generated.

Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman also demanded that the Shehbaz government explain its failure to move forward with the Pakistan-Iran Gas Pipeline Project.
