In the United Arab Emirates, a close ally of Israel, government-level discrimination against foreign Shia residents has put them in serious trouble. Following the Iran–Israel–US tensions, Pakistani and Iranian Shia individuals in particular are reportedly facing increased restrictions and inhumane treatment.
Inhumane Treatment in Detention Centers
According to reports, well-educated individuals who have been working in senior positions in the UAE for decades are being detained and placed in detention centers. There, they are allegedly subjected to severe mental and physical torture.

Treated Like Criminals
In these detention centers, Shia individuals are reportedly treated like criminals. They are said to be deprived of basic necessities such as food, water, and sleep. Even their fundamental needs are ignored.
Humiliation Due to Being Shia
A former detainee claimed that individuals are constantly insulted because of their Shia identity. They are allegedly told they deserve such humiliation because they are Shia. Both young and elderly individuals are reportedly being detained in these centers.
Hypocrisy and Human Rights Violations
All of this is said to be happening in a country that presents itself globally as a supporter of personal freedom, democracy, and human rights. However, according to these claims, the reality of its government policies and treatment appears to be deeply troubling.
