SCU demands for postponing the third stage of Local Bodies Elections

President of Shia Ulema Council Punjab Allama Syed Sibtain Haider Sabzwari demanded for postponing the third stage of Local Bodies elections in the province and said “In respect of Imam Hussain (as)’s chehlum on 3rd December and for the ease of administration itself it is necessary that elections be postponed for two weeks”.

While presiding over the meeting of provincial azadari council Allama Sibtain Sabzwari said “We have asked several times to postpone all three stages of LB elections for two months but the government and Election Commission showed dogmatism and continued with the elections during the two sacred months of Muharram ul Haram and Safar ul Muzafar associated with Imam Hussain (as). Polling for the second stage of LB elections is going to take place on 19th November”.

He further said “These are the days of mourning in remembrance of Imam Hussain (as) and on 3rd December i.e. 20th Safar there will be Imam Hussain (aS)’s chehlum and it will also be beneficial for the government and administration not to conduct poliing on that day because police, civil administration, Rangers and army will also be busy with the security arrangements of mourning processions. Therefore, it is better to postpone the third stage of elections at least for two weeks”.

“A delegation of Shia Ulema Council will soon meet the Election Commissioner of Punjab Masood Malik regarding the issue and will aware him of Millat e Jafaria’s concerns”, he added.
