Shiite News: Chairman Majlis Wahdat-e-Muslimeen Pakistan and Leader of the Opposition in the Senate, Senator Allama Raja Nasir Abbas Jafri, has expressed grave concern over the alleged inhumane treatment of human rights activist Imaan Hazir Mazari and Advocate Hadi Ali while in custody at Adiala Jail.
He stated that depriving detainees of basic necessities such as food and water is not only morally condemnable but also a clear violation of the Constitution of Pakistan, prison rules, and Pakistan’s obligations under international human rights conventions.
He emphasized that imprisonment does not deprive any citizen of their fundamental human rights, and under all circumstances, the state is obligated to treat prisoners in accordance with human dignity.
Allama Raja Nasir Abbas warned that such reports seriously damage the credibility of state institutions and raise serious questions about the rule of law.
The Opposition Leader demanded an immediate, transparent, and impartial investigation into the incident, identification of those responsible, and their prosecution in accordance with the law.
He stressed that expressing dissent and raising voices for human rights is not a crime, and such coercive tactics weaken democratic values. He urged the state to adhere to principles of law, justice, and human dignity rather than resorting to force.
