PPP, Islami Tehreek Alliance in Skardu at Risk
Shiite News: The potential electoral alliance between the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and Islami Tehreek in Skardu appears to be in jeopardy after sharp statements from leaders of both parties intensified mutual differences.
According to reports, PPP Baltistan President Basharat Zaheer recently stated in an interview that Islami Tehreek has no vote bank in Skardu Constituency NA-1, nor does it have a candidate there.
Reacting strongly to this statement, Islami Tehreek Skardu General Secretary Sheikh Ahmed Turabi rebutted Basharat Zaheer’s remarks, asserting that whether Islami Tehreek has a vote bank in Skardu NA-1 or not will be revealed at the right time.
He added that the party is fully active on the ground but will not waste money by holding unnecessary rallies because Islam prohibits extravagance. He said Islami Tehreek is a religious movement first and a political party later, and even if it does not win, it has the strength to influence the victory or defeat of other parties. He warned that no party, including PPP, should assume that Islami Tehreek lacks a candidate in Skardu NA-1.
Following the exchange of harsh comments between PPP’s Basharat Zaheer and Islami Tehreek’s Sheikh Ahmed Turabi, the likelihood of a possible electoral alliance between the two sides has visibly diminished.
