ITP Will Continue to Meet Public Expectations: Allama Shabbir Meesami
Shiite News: Central Secretary General and Chairman of the Political Committee of Islami Tehreek Pakistan, Allama Dr. Shabbir Hassan Meesami, has announced that the party will actively participate in the upcoming Gilgit-Baltistan Legislative Assembly elections.
Speaking to media representatives, Allama Meesami said that Islami Tehreek is in contact with all parliamentary political parties for potential electoral alliances and that a final decision will be made in the greater interest of the region and its people.
He stated that meetings have already been held with leaders of various political parties, and while Islami Tehreek has clarified its stance, it has neither refused nor finalized any alliance so far. “Whatever decision is made,” he said, “it will be public and in the best interest of the people of Gilgit-Baltistan.”
Allama Meesami demanded that constitutional rights be granted to Gilgit-Baltistan, including representation in the National Assembly and Senate equal to that of other provinces. He reminded that the people of the region liberated themselves from Dogra rule through their own struggle and voluntarily acceded to Pakistan after meeting Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah (RA).
“Yet, 78 years later,” he lamented, “Gilgit-Baltistan is still deprived of its constitutional rights.”
He further stated that the people of the region have always trusted the leadership of Quaid-e-Millat-e-Islamia, Allama Syed Sajid Ali Naqvi, and voted for Islami Tehreek candidates on his guidance. “We have previously formed the government and have also been part of various governing coalitions. Insha’Allah, Islami Tehreek will once again live up to the expectations of the people,” he said confidently.
