Shiite News: Provincial President of Majlis Wahdat-e-Muslimeen (MWM) Gilgit-Baltistan, Agha Syed Ali Rizvi, has strongly condemned the enforcement of land reforms in the region, terming it a conspiracy to usurp the lands of the local population.
In a statement, Agha Rizvi recalled that the founder of the land reforms bill, Advocate Amjad, had earlier stated that its implementation would begin from Skardu constituency No. 2 — and today, this controversial law has indeed been initiated there through the imposition of Section 144, registration of serious cases, and suspension of employees.
He said the government is deliberately sowing divisions among the people and using this discord as a tool to grab their lands. “Poor citizens are being mentally tortured, implicated in false cases, and subjected to arrests. By enforcing Section 144, the authorities have banned public gatherings and rallies,” he added.
Agha Rizvi reminded that he had already warned that land reforms would become a noose around the people’s necks, but facilitators of this law ridiculed his warnings. “Now, the public is witnessing with their own eyes how this law is being used to devour their lands under the guise of ‘benefits,’” he said.
He further alleged that in Gamba Skardu, revenue department officials are being exploited to seize lands, while youths are being trapped in fabricated cases, and protests are being suppressed under Section 144.
Rejecting these government measures outright, he called upon the people to maintain unity in their ranks and collectively protect their lands.
Agha Rizvi assured the people that once his health improves, he will join them physically in their struggle. “Do not consider yourselves alone,” he said, urging prayers for his recovery. He also appealed to scholars, political, and social figures to stand with the people and play their role in stopping this oppression.
Concluding, he stated that the Land Reforms Act is not in the interest of the people but rather a “black law” designed for the benefit of the government. “Its architects are the common enemies of the people of this region,” he added.
