Ferry service for pilgrims to Iran & Iraq likely

Pakistan Ministry of Ports and Shipping is studying a proposal to launch a ferry service for pilgrims going from Karachi to Iran and Iraq for pilgrimage Of Holy shrines in Iraq and Iran.

A meeting, held recently at the PNSC office with federal Minister for Ports and Shipping Senator Kamran Michael in the chair, was informed that plans were also afoot to start a fast ferry cargo service from Pakistan to UAE.

The minister said the government was keen to start the ferry service for pilgrims as a national cause. Being cheaper than air travel, it is the best alternative route for people visiting holy places in Iran and Iraq.

He invited the private sector to participate in such ventures.

Its pertaining to mention here that more than 2 million pilgrims have been traveled to Iran and Iran to visit the Holy shrines every year via land routes of Balochistan but the several incidents of terrorism had witnessed in this area against the pilgrims that why the both Pakistan and Iran government have planned to initiate ferry services to avoid any untoward situation.
