ECP disqualifies Imran Khan, countrywide protest started

Shiite News: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) disqualified former Prime Minister and Chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Imran Khan while a countrywide protest started against the decision.

A 5-member commission headed by Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja gave a unanimous decision, but 4 members were present when the decision was delivered because Punjab member Babar Hassan Bharwana was not part of the commission today due to illness.

While pronouncing the decision, it was said that Imran Khan has been disqualified under Article 63 (one) (p) for submitting a false statement.

The four-member commission of the Election Commission, headed by Chief Election Commissioner Sikander Sultan Raja, unanimously pronounced the reserved decision in the Tosha Khana case against former Prime Minister Imran Khan.

In its decision, the Election Commission declared Imran Khan unfit for public representation and said that Imran Khan hid facts about his financial assets and submitted false statements to cover up the truth.

In the decision, it was said that Imran Khan was not eligible for public representation due to lying. The Election Commission in its decision also recommended criminal action against Imran Khan.

The commission has disqualified Imran Khan under sub-clause p of clause one of Article 63 of the Constitution of Pakistan, while his disqualification period under the said article of the constitution will continue till the end of the current assembly.

Thus, according to the decision, Imran Khan has been de-seated from the National Assembly and by declaring his seat vacant, the Election Commission will hold a by-election.

On the other hand, Tehreek-e-Insaaf workers and supporters have come out on the streets in large numbers across the country against the Election Commission’s decision against Imran Khan, roadblocks are being made and tires are being set on fire, traffic has been suspended on various highways.
