Shiitenews: The pride of shia Mokhtar Ibn E Abu Obaid Thaqafi was one of the tabien of first century who belongs to Ta’if. He is famous for taking revenge of Imam Hussain A.S and his loyal companions. When Muslim ibn e Aqeel came Kufa as messenger of Imam Hussain A.S Mokhtar present him self to host Muslim but at time of his martyrdom Mokhtar was in prison of Abdullah Ibn e Ziyad who was the governor of Kufa.

Mokhtar has killed the criminals of Ashura whoms hand are red with blood of Imam Hussain A.S. Some people believe that Imam Sajjad A.S secretly supported his resistance and governance. Mokhtar has established a shia governance in Kufa and after 18 months of governance he become martyred by Musab ibn E Zubair. He is buried in great mosque of Kufa beside the tomb of Hazrat Muslim Ibn e Aqeel.

Mukhtar was born in Ta’if in 622 CE (the year that the Islamic prophet Muhammad migrated to Medina) to Abu Ubayd al-Thaqafi, a Muslim army commander from the Banu Thaqif tribe, and Dawma bint Amr ibn Wahb ibn Muattib. Following Muhammad’s death in 632, Abu Bakr became caliph. He died two years later and was succeeded by Umar, who expanded the Muslim conquests initiated by Abu Bakr, and sent Mukhtar’s father Abu Ubayd to the Iraqi front. Abu Ubayd was killed at the Battle of the Bridge in November 634. Mukhtar, then thirteen years old, remained in Iraq after the Muslim conquest of this region, and was raised by his uncle Sa’d ibn Masud al-Thaqafi. There is not much record about the childhood of Mokhtar in history.

It is said that Mokhtar has participated the war of Jisr in which he loss his father and three brothers. He also wants to go in this battle field ignoring his small age but his uncle didn’t allow him and forbid him from doing so.

Mokhtar’s uncle Saad ibn Masood appointed him as his acting governor when he was going for the war of Nehrawan.

After his Qiyam he ruled in Kufa for almost 18 months in which he was fighting to three different groups : masters of Kufa, Bani Ummayah in Syria and Bani Zubair in Makka. At last he died by Musab Ibn e Zubair on 14th Ramadan in 67th hijri. His hands was cutted and hanged at the wall of the mosque of Kufa on Musab’s orders.

There were 6000 man in Mokhtar’s army at his martyrdom time who surrender to Musab due to his peace order but after death of Mokhtar, Musab beheaded all of them one by one which was horrible and terrifying. When Abdullah ibn e Umar met Musab he said to him if that 6000 men were the cattle of your ancestors even then, killing them would be extravagant.
