Police officials and eyewitnesses said that huge fire erupted after the powerful blast.

According to the police, it also caused widespread damage.

The explosion left a vender dead. He used to sell vegetables near the pole, where the blast occurred.

Meanwhile, Counter Terror Department (CTD) of Punjab Police and the Army personnel rushed to the scene of the blast and conducted an investigation.

Although, Rawalpindi Deputy Commissioner Anwarul Haq said that investigators were trying to determine nature of the blast, police described it terrorism.

Later, the police spokesperson said that the CTD and other law-enforcement agencies had collected evidence from the scene.

The preliminary investigation suggested that the explosives planted on an electric pole.

It may add here that Pakistan has fallen victim to takfiri terrorism.

Takfiris follow an anti-Islam intolerant ideology of hatred, bias, fanaticism and militant terror.

Generally, they remain affiliated to Daesh (ISIS), a-Qaida, Taliban, Jamaatul Ahrar, Jundullah, Sipah Sahaba (ASWJ), Lashkar Jhangvi, etc.

Notably, Pakistani Taliban further divided into break-away factions such as Jamaatul Ahrar, etc., while many also switched to Daesh terror group.

Recently, Peshawar police arrested 8 terrorists, including an Afghan national who belonged to Daesh and other takfiri outfits.
