The lawmakers belonging to former ruling and present opposition parties expressed resentment over cancellation of Prime Minister’s Malaysia visit.
Chairman of Senate Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs Mushahid Hussain termed the government’s decision to skip Kuala Lumpur Summit as extremely dangerous.
In a tweet, former military general and incumbent Senator General Abdul Qayoom (retd) called it a diplomatic blunder with deep rooted implications.
However, Mushahid Hussain said it is very damaging for Pakistan’s core interests.
He lamented that Pakistan government backed out from the KL Summit. Mushahid exclaimed th U-turn at a time when Malaysia, Turkey and Iran supported Pakistan on Kashmir like a rock.
Pro-China expert on foreign policy also foresees Pakistani credibility in tatters after this shocking cancellation of scheduled visit.
Mushahid has served Pakistan as Information Minister.
Pakistan Peoples Party legislator
The lawmaker from PPP Dr Nafisa Shah asked the government to bring the matter to parliament for debate. She called cancellation of the Malaysia visit of Prime Minister a very serious issue.
Dr. Nafisa Shah is of the view that as a nation, Pakistan should not be supporting any one side at the international level.
She said that the government should also tell parliament “what money is being taken by the government and on what conditions”.
Former Defence Minister of Pakistan
Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz MNA Khurram Dastagir Khan also criticised the government for its wavering foreign policy.
He said while talking to the media that Prime Minister Imran Khan failed to maintain foreign policy balance.
Furthermore, he said that the cancellation of his visit comes as the most recent example of his dithering and craven conduct of foreign policy.
Khurram Dastgir said PM IK’s conduct was is comforting Pakistan’s enemies and dismaying our friends.
He rejected weak excuses the prime minister had given to justify staying away from the Kuala Lumpur summit.
Because, it signified his inability to balance Pakistan’s long-term foreign policy interests with temporary benefits, he said.
