Hezbollah to continue support for Syria, official says

A senior Hezbollah official says the Lebanese resistance movement will continue lending support to the Syrian government in its battle against Takfiri terrorists.

Hezbollah’s Deputy Secretary General Sheikh Naeem Qassem made the comments on Friday during the International Media Conference Against Terrorism, which kicked off in the Syrian capital, Damascus, Syria’s official news agency SANA reported.

“The Syrian people’s will is no longer breakable now, in the same way that attempts to bring Syria down and take it out the resistance axis are no longer possible,” Qassem was quoted by SANA as saying in the two-day conference.

Hezbollah will keep on supporting Syria and will be present wherever the “resistance project” requires, he added.

Meanwhile, Syrian Foreign Minister Walid al-Muallem, also present at the event, called on the countries in the Middle East to make efforts to establish a regional alliance to counter the rising threat of terrorist groups like ISIL in the region.

He said the necessity for setting up such a united front has increased in the absence of “any serious international and regional effort for combating terrorism.”

Hezbollah and Seyyed Hassan Nasrallah, the secretary general of the resistance movement, have time and again expressed the movement’s support for the Syrian fight against terrorism.

Earlier in July, Nasrallah highlighted during an address to mark the International Quds Day that if Syria falls, so will Palestine.

Hezbollah fighters have been battling the Takfiri terrorists along with Syrian armed forces in Syria’s strategic Qalamoun region over the past few months.

Syria has been grappling with a deadly crisis since March 2011.
